Petty Officer 2nd Class (PO 2) Matthew Pitman is a passionate participator of Personnel Support Program (PSP) programs and so are his kids, especially sports activities like swimming and skating. He says it’s important for his kids to meet others from the military community and that sports help bring families with similar backgrounds together.
“My favourite part of the activity is the transformation and progress,” he says. “They benefit from leading a healthier life and I would encourage others to join and participate!”

If you are looking for an opportunity for your children to be more active this fall, then register for the Champions Program that will be held on Sundays from 29 September to 1 December 2019. This program will feature a multi-sport approach with various activities intended to develop resiliency in military children. Participants will have the opportunity to strengthen both physical and mental skills and abilities, beneficial when leading a military lifestyle. PSP staff will run the program with the help of players and coaches from the Ottawa REDBLACKS, Ottawa 67’s, and Ottawa Fury FC.
“This is a very exciting opportunity for kids of the National Capital Region” says Jori Ritchie, the Program Coordinator. “What they learn in sports provides a strong foundation that helps prepare them for future life experiences, including overcoming challenges associated with military lifestyle.”
The Champions Program is made possible by the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) Foundation and Support Our Troops. OSEG launched their Foundation in 2017 to give more children and youth the opportunity to play, learn and develop through sports.
Become a Champion by registering at CAFconnection.ca/CHAMPIONS. Registration is now open with limited spaces. Priority registration will go to youth from families affected most by the military lifestyle (i.e. deployments, frequent moves, news schools and friends, etc.) Don’t miss out on this great opportunity!
