Congratulations to Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel Farid Rohani of The British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught’s Own), who received a Senate 150th Anniversary Medal on 31 October, 2018.
The presentation was made in the Senate Chamber on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Ontario by the Honourable George J. Furey, Q.C., who is Speaker of the Senate of Canada. Also attending was Honorary Colonel of the Canadian Army Paul Hindo
HLCol Rohani was nominated by The Honourable Mobina S.B. Jaffer, Q.C., who represents British Columbia in the Senate.
The Senate introduced the medal in 2017 to mark the 150th anniversary of its first sitting in November 1867. The medals are awarded to Canadians who strive to make their communities, provinces or territories better places in which to live.
The tradition of Honoraries was adopted from Britain over a century ago. They are prominent citizens appointed to be guardians of regimental traditions and history, to promote a regiment’s identity, and to act as advisors to their commanding officers.
HLCol Rohani‘s regiment, The British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught’s Own), is an Army Reserve armoured reconnaissance regiment of 39 Canadian Brigade Group located in Vancouver, B.C. at The Beatty Street Drill Hall. The regiment actively recruits officers and non-commissioned members with technical interests to fill part-time positions.
