Canadian Forces Support Unit (Ottawa) has a new Commandant. On 22 June 2018, CFSU(O) welcomed Colonel Angela Banville as their new Commandant, assuming command from outgoing Commandant Brigadier-General Richard Goodyear in a ceremony held at the historic Salaberry Armoury of Le Régiment de Hull.

The Change of Command ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Lieutenant-General Lamarre, Major-General Friday, and Colonel (Ret’d) Vermeersch, former CFSU(O) Commandant, and featured precision drill by CFSU(O) personnel. Speeches were delivered by the outgoing and incoming Commandants as well as MGen Friday, the Reviewing Officer.

In his farewell remarks, BGen Goodyear praised the work of CFSU(O) with characteristic humour, stating that

“Canadian Forces Support Unit (Ottawa) is committed to service excellence, providing world-class support to the 22,000 members of the Defence Team here in the NCR.

And let me tell you, it has been quite the ride leading it through building fires and sinkholes, floodings, massive personnel relocations, hundreds of VIP visits and parades. And that was just a normal week”. BGen Goodyear will go on to become the CAF Comptroller.

In her introductory remarks, Colonel Banville similarly focused on the professionalism and drive of the unit, saying that “Though we operate in a unique environment here in the National Capital Region delivering support to the largest base in Canada it is evident that the commitment to service is a driving force among the members of CFSU(O).

The innovative ideas and enthusiasm that I have witnessed here already make me excited to lead such a great unit.”

Incoming Commandant Colonel Banville has had a distinguished career, providing logistics, engineering, and technical support across Canada and the world, being engaged in diverse missions such as NORAD, ISAF, Task Force Jerusalem, and many more. Notably and in addition, she has extensive experience at CFSU(O) already, having served as its Technical Services Officer, providing logistics support to units across the National Capital Region.
