The Defence Team in the National Capital Region (NCR) has proven once again that its military and civilian employees care deeply about making a difference in their local communities and across the country.
The National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign (NDWCC) in the NCR, part of the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign, provides National Defence employees with an opportunity to make a donation to one or more charities of their choice.
In 2017, the NDWCC raised $1,068,912 through donations and special events including contests, breakfasts, charity fairs, pool tournaments, skating parties and Jeans Days. More than 1,000 members of the Defence Team volunteered to assist during the campaign.
National Defence was also the first government department to set up a Text to Donate mobile giving program.
The 2017 NDWCC National Champion was Vice-Admiral Ron Lloyd, Commander Royal Canadian Navy. “I am inspired as I see the number of people who volunteered their time and energy to participate in the NDWCC,” he said.
“Each volunteer has given generously of their time to tell their colleagues about this campaign and to organize new and exciting ways to get them involved in fundraising,” he added. “Their efforts were important, not only for the amount of money they raised, but also for the team morale they built as they encouraged their colleagues to participate in fundraising events.”
2017 NDWCC Champion Award recipients included Lynne Paquette, VCDS; MCpl Donald Lickers, ADM IM; Jason Fox, ADM MAT; Capt Isabelle Beaulieu, VCDS; Capt Wendy Patterson, VCDS; Sara Grichen, HR CIV; Capt Diana Kortelainen, ADM FIN; Michelle Olsen, VCDS; Team CFSU(O), Capt Catherine Cote; and Team RCAF, Capt Erika Black.
