Flu vaccine for the 2018/2019 season has arrived and is available to Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, Regular or Reserve, who are entitled to medical care from the Canadian Forces Health Services.  The immunization department at the Canadian Forces Health Services Center (Ottawa) is happy to offer a drop-in service for flu vaccination from 07:30-14:30 daily.  No appointment is necessary.

Influenza is easily transmitted from person-to-person by the spread of respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing, or by hands contaminated with respiratory secretions.

Immunization is the safest, longest lasting and most effective way to prevent influenza, its complications, and minimize its spread.  Although flu season runs October – March, it is recommended that vaccination occur near the start of the season (i.e. between October and mid-November) for maximum benefit.

In addition to vaccination, the spread of influenza can be further reduced by conscientious handwashing, good respiratory etiquette (covering your cough with a tissue or sleeve), and staying home when ill.

For added convenience, several satellite flu clinics are scheduled for entitled CAF members.  Take advantage of this opportunity.  It’s convenient, efficient and a great action for public health and operational readiness!
