National Defence is organizing an event in Ottawa on 12 September 2019, which will include:

  • senior leadership speeches (DM and CDS (or delegate)),
  • panel discussion; and,
  • presentation of first Defence Team Official Languages Excellence Award.

The event will be live streamed internally through the web across the Defence Team and participants will be able to ask questions during the panel discussion. Simultaneous translation in both official languages will be provided.

Event Schedule

1300 hrs
Onsite participants gather and take their seats.

Remote participants log in through Video Teleconference or other method.

1325 hrs Start of event (NDHQ(Carling) building 6 in front of the cafeteria) – introduction by the Master of Ceremonies
1330 hrs Remarks by the Deputy Minister
1335 hrs Remarks by the Chief of the Defence Staff
1340 hrs Presentation of Defence Team Official Languages Excellence Award

    Looking for a unique opportunity to engage on Bell Let’s Talk (BLT) Day with your senior leadership? Look no further.


    Mental Health Co-Champion, Vice Chief of the Defence Staff Lieutenant-General Jean-Marc Lanthier, is pleased to host a Bell Let’s Talk Breakfast on January 29 from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. at Carling Campus focusing on mental health in the workplace. He will be joined by special guest and his Mental Health Co-Champion, Deputy Minister Jody Thomas.


    This informal session will provide a small group of Defence Team members the opportunity to share breakfast and discuss important mental health topics at Defence. This breakfast will provide a unique opportunity to learn about leadership’s key goals and priorities and for them to learn about what is top-of-mind for military and civilian members across the Defence Team.


    The goal of BLT Day is to help end the stigma surrounding mental illness and support mental health initiatives around the country by talking, texting, and tweeting about mental health. So, let’s talk and encourage the normalization and continuity of this important conversation.

    Defence Team members in the National Capital Region (NCR) are invited to attend an event highlighting #BellLet’sTalk Day. The event will take place on Wednesday, January 29, from 1000 hrs to 1100 hrs in the atrium of Building 5 (by the Starbucks) at NDHQ(Carling).


    The event will focus on actions to create positive change in the workplace where there is an increased awareness around mental illness and acceptance of talking about mental health. It is an opportunity to learn simple and practical tips that can help you have a positive impact on your life and those around you, learn about the resources available to support your personal well-being, and hear what Defence is doing to build and sustain a psychologically healthy and safe workplace.


    During this event, audience members will be invited to participate and electronically submit questions in an informal arm chair discussion highlighting the mental health of all Defence Team members, featuring Mental Health co-Champions Deputy Minister, Jody Thomas, Vice Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant-General Jean-Marc Lanthier, and Mr. Jerry Ryan, President of the Federal Government Dockyard Trade and Labour Council East, who will be joined by departmental mental health and well-being experts.


    Defence Team members who have questions but are unable to attend the event can submit a question for the panelists ahead of time, or follow the event on the official DND/CAF social media accounts.


    Kiosks offering important information on military and civilian mental health support services will also be available.
