Explore the NCR Underwater With the Forces Sub Aqua Club (FSAC)

By Major Dietrich Gunther, Vice President, Forces Sub Aqua Club –

The Forces Sub Aqua Club (FSAC) has been serving members of the Defence Community in the National Capital Region (NCR) since 1959. Originally called the Army Headquarters Sub Aqua Club, it has recently opened its membership to all members of the Defence Team (current and retired) and their families.

Advantages of Becoming a Member

Members of FSAC are able to participate in organized dives, meet a great group of people who share an enthusiasm for diving, and take advantage of equipment rentals at very competitive prices (BCDs, regulator sets, and tanks are available).

Diving Program

FSAC conducts a wide range of club-organized and club-supervised dives between Ottawa and Kingston each summer, most often in the St. Lawrence River.  A robust program has been developed for this summer that will include a variety of shore dives and single tank boat dives on weeknights, and two tank boat dives every second weekend, both starting in June 2019.  These dives will appeal to all levels of divers from novice to master, though not all dives are appropriate for all skill levels. Another perk is that shore dives are free! Simply show up with your gear at the appointed hour and location and jump in.  Boat dives are undertaken through charters at an additional but reasonable cost.

Equipment Rental

You must be a PSP Ottawa Recreation member in good standing and a certified diver in order to rent equipment. Rentals are for the entire summer period, going from May to November.  Please note that the cost will be confirmed at the Annual General Meeting held this coming April.

The date will be advertised on the FSAC website and in the Community Calendar once confirmed.  Now is the best time to come out and learn more about the club, meet the executive and other members, and join the club.

Courses

FSAC runs courses from time to time depending on instructor and facility availabilities.
