By Colonel Richard Goodyear, CFSU(O) Commandant –
This week is National Volunteer Week in Canada. This is a great opportunity to recognize the many Defence Community volunteers that enable our sports programs, our Family Appreciation Days, our MFRC-NCR events, to name a few. Our NCR community would not be as welcoming and supportive without their hard work and for that we thank them. If you would like to give back to your community and enjoy a weekend of family festivities, I encourage you to visit PSP Ottawa’s website.
Our NDHQ Ceremonial Cell has been extremely busy these past weeks hosting parades for various dignitaries visiting the NCR. Indeed, we had the honour of hosting the British Chief of Defence, the NATO Secretary General, and the Norwegian Chief of Defence.
In NDHQ (Carling) news, I recently hosted a townhall with the DGIEES Group regarding Carling initiatives to better inform them of the facilities and all that the new headquarters has to offer. Speaking of which, a friendly reminder that What’s Brewing is comping up on Thursday, April 19 in the common area between buildings 8 & 9. To RSVP to this joint and combined mess event, visit PSP Ottawa’s website.
Last but not least, I wish to welcome back from parental leave our new PSP Fitness, Sports and Recreation Manager, Ryan Cain. As former PSP Fitness Coordinator, Ryan’s efforts have been instrumental in increasing participation in fitness initiatives and classes in the NCR. We wish him the best in his new leadership position.
The team at the Guard welcomes your feedback and submissions. If you have an article, and event or photos you would like to share with your peers within the Defence Community, please contact the Editor.
