Heroes and Leaders
By Brigadier-General Richard Goodyear, CFSU(O) Commandant –
Uplands was all about families these past weeks as the Uplands Community Council elected its new Mayor, Sergeant Steven Meigs, during the Annual General Meeting and the Defence Community set up tent for a whole weekend of fun for Family Appreciation Days. I am immensely proud of all the efforts the event committee has put into organizing this large event. A record 10,300 family members came to visit us and enjoyed sports, midway rides, bouncies, arcades, superhero obstacle courses, partners and sponsors kiosks and games and of course, military displays and LAV rides. Military families are everyday heroes and this event was our way of saying thank you for their contribution to the Defence Team.
Speaking of military families, CFCWO Kevin West held his charity golf tournament on May 25 at Hylands Golf Club. On behalf of our local military families, I wish to thank him and his team for their continued support.
Several command groups changed leadership recently. In chronological order I would like to congratulate Brigadier-General Simon Trudeau on becoming the new Canadian Forces Provost Marshal and Military Police Commander; Lieutenant-General Paul Wynnyk on taking on the position of Acting Vice Chief of the Defence Staff, and Lieutenant-General Mike Rouleau on moving on from CANSOFCOM to the Canadian Joint Operations Command. Congratulations as well to Chief Warrant Officer Stuart Hartnell on his appointment to Sergeant-Major of the Canadian Army.
Lastly, I would like to thank all members of the Defence Team who came out and attended the BBQ at Cartier Square Drill Hall on June 11 in celebration of the National Public Service Week. It is important to acknowledge the work public servants achieve within our team.
The team at the Guard welcomes your feedback and submissions. If you have an article, and event or photos you would like to share with your peers within the Defence Community, please contact us.
