For the first time in its history, Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services held a Change of Appointment Ceremony for the Chief Warrant Officer of the Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services (CFMWS CWO), this past 22 May at its Headquarters in Ottawa, ON.
The main role of the CFMWS CWO is to assist and advise the CFMWS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on matters affecting all Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members, veterans and their families. Back in 2018, the position of CFMWS CWO was upgraded to the Senior Appointment level. This allowed the CFMWS Command Team (CEO and CWO) to be properly recognized and aligned within the Canadian Armed Forces institution.
A large number of employees, family and friends were present at the recent change of appointment ceremony where both CFMWS and CAF leaders bid farewell to Chief Petty Officer First Class (CPO 1) Lucie Simpson and welcomed her successor, Chief Warrant Officer Marco Côté. Major-General Whelan, Military Personnel Command Chief of Staff – Strategy, presided over this year’s ceremony. He was accompanied by the Canadian Armed Forces Chief Warrant Officer, CWO Alain Guimond.
During her address, CPO 1 Simpson expressed her gratitude for her career in the CAF and for her two-year posting at CFMWS. “I am so fortunate for having been part of Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services, it has given me the opportunity to directly help in improving the lives of our members and their families and this Team has inspired me to be a better leader and a better person.” CPO 1 Simpson is moving onto her next position as the CWO of CF Health Services Group.
As the new CFMWS CWO, CWO Côté is a highly decorated Special Operations Sniper who comes with impressive military and personal experience, and a great appreciation for Morale and Welfare Services. “I have been in the CAF since 1988 and I sincerely believe that Morale and Welfare Services played a big role in my career. These services are critical to the Canadian Armed Forces. Without these Morale and Welfare Services throughout my career, I may not have been here today.”
In closing, CWO Côté said he looks forward to working alongside CFMWS CEO, Mr. Cantelon as the new CFMWS CWO.
