Holidays with Central Band hosts Acadian disco star Patsy Gallant this year

By Michael McCarthy, PSP Ottawa –

The exceptional talent of the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces (CBCAF) will once again be on display at the 7th annual Holidays with the Central Band concert, with special guest Acadian Disco Star Patsy Gallant. The Holidays with the Central Band event provides the CBCAF the opportunity to share its talents with a wider audience, and to thank the Defence Community for their support throughout the year.

Under the direction of Captain John Fullerton, Commanding Officer and Music Director of the CBCAF, over 40 musicians will collaborate to offer concertgoers the unique opportunity to enjoy a wonderful evening of song and music, in a festive setting.

This rendition of the annual event will be on offer to delight their audience with performances replete with traditional Christmas carols, original performances, as well as seasonal favourites, both Tuesday, December 11th, 2018 and Wednesday, December 12th, 2018 at the Meridian Centrepointe Theatre. As would be considered likely, Given the special guest at this year’s event, it is likely that we will see a distinctly disco themed holiday event, during this year’s performance.

With her disco-era sound, guest vocalist and Acadian Disco Diva Patsy Gallant will collaborate with the Central Band. With such international hits as “Sugar Daddy” and “From New York to L.A.”, Mme Gallant is an internationally renowned star, with a distinctly upbeat voice that will enchant her audience.

We were able to sit with Mme Gallant, in order to get her thoughts on playing at this special event:

What is your favourite part of working with the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces?

The military means a lot to me. I have a lot of respect for our Canadian Armed Forces, and so it is an honour to acknowledge them.

What are you most excited about performing with the Central Band?

I can’t wait to perform with them – it will be my first time! It is a thrill to play on stage with the Central Band!

What are you most proud of in your career?

Off of the top of my head, I’d say it is my longevity. I am very proud to have been working in this business for 67 years, and able to make a living out of it.

When you aren’t performing, what do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to visit museums and attend cultural events in Montreal.  I also like to be active by swimming and going for hikes on Mount Royal.

What inspires you as an artist?  What influences your music?

All of life inspires me. Primarily, I get inspiration from beauty and art, and all of my artistic predecessors. I am also influenced by politics, and all of the crises in the world – the challenges that humanity faces.  I am also influenced by love, and love lost.

My musical influences come from many places, including jazz, country, soul, and gospel musical genres.

What is your favourite holiday song?

My favourite holiday song is “The Secret of Christmas”, which I will be performing with the Central Band at this year’s event!

Do you have a favourite holiday tradition?

I am one of ten children in my family, growing up in New Brunswick. We were very poor, but Christmas was the very best time of the year. My father would cut down a tree, and my mother would trim the very best tree. One special thing she did was to thread a ball of cotton to give the impression of snow on the tree. It was always so beautiful – I will never forget it! I absolutely love a white Christmas!”

Do you have any upcoming projects that you would like to share?

I am happy to say that I have multiple upcoming projects! First, I am signing a book deal with Quebecor Corp. I am also going to be attending the Governor General’s Order of Canada reception.  I have already? been awarded this award, but the ceremony will be forthcoming, which is exciting.

I am also performing at a great Quebec-artist led event in Quebec City, Les Idoles, at the Centre Videotron, on 25 May 2019.

With so many great successes in her career, the Central Band and the members of the CAF community are thrilled to have Mme Gallant entertain us at this year’s event, in what will undoubtedly be a fun-filled festive evening!

The Central Band with special guest Patsy Gallant, will be playing shows on 11-12December 2018 at 1900hrs at the Meridian Centrepointe Theatres.  Tickets may be purchased at www.meridiancentrepointetheatre.com. CAF/DND personnel may use the promo code listed in the CFSU(O) Routine Orders to access tickets at a discounted rate, with tickets ranging from $10-20.
