By Shannon Anderson, NDWCC Campaign Leader –
The 2019 National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign (NDWCC) officially launched on Friday, 6 September, 2019 starting with the 19th annual Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS) Canoe Race followed by a launch event at Cartier Square Drill Hall. This kicks off the active campaigning season and celebrates the spirit of giving and supporting the community that the Defence Team demonstrates each year.
The canoe race saw some boats tipping over, some others turning in circles, and some speeding to the finish line! With 35 boats making their way down the historic Rideau Canal, the winning boat went to the ADM(Mat) team – Canadian Surface Canoe – raced by Rear-Admiral Simon Page, Ms Chantal Aubry, and Lieutenant-Colonel François Dionne. The final amount raised through the Canoe Race was $8,339.10.
In recognition of the Defence Team’s successful campaigning last year with $1,130,016.68, the Thanks a Million award was bestowed. This award is given to organizations that have raised $1 million or more in support of this important work. This year the goal remains the same; to raise $1,128,500.
For the first 50/50 raffle, sales were just shy of selling out. The winners will be displayed on the new NDWCC 50/50 Draws page along with prize totals and rules of play. Congratulations to Major Yvan Lavoie who won $658.78.
Now that the campaign is underway, one of the most popular events is back – Jeans Days!
DND/CAF employees in the National Capital Region who want to contribute to the campaign, who want to work #Shoulder2Shoulder, can purchase a Jeans Day button from their respective L1 team leaders.
For a minimum donation of $20, you will receive your Jeans Day button, and are eligible for a tax receipt.
The buttons can be worn every Friday from 13 September to 13 December 2019. Take advantage of this opportunity to have a break from your work clothes and military dress while raising money for the NDWCC. When we do good, we feel good!
All proceeds go to the NDWCC and any questions can be directed to their positional mailbox.
Many more exciting events and activities are taking place in the upcoming weeks, so keep your eyes open!
