That’s What She Said Women’s Brass Collective Perform at Conference

Sgt Andrea MacDougall, Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces –

From 17-20 January 2019, members of the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces (CBCAF) travelled to Toronto to participate in the inaugural conference hosted by the Canadian Women’s Brass Collective entitled, “That’s What She Said”. The aim of the collective is to celebrate gender diversity in music and in the CAF, to foster positive attitudes, and to provide inspiration and role models for the next generation of Canadian brass players as they advance in their journey through music. The event recognized and celebrated female brass players through masterclasses, workshops, and performances.

The Spitfire Brass Quintet performed a concert at the University of Toronto Faculty of Music, showcasing the talents of military musicians. The women from the brass section of the Central Band performed with the Viceroy Brass Ensemble, a group of top professional musicians from every corner of the country. They hope to return to represent the military women in brass at this prestigious event in the future.
